Jack and the Westbourne Fair

Later that morning, the headmaster called Jack 'a hero.' Jack's classmates wanted to hear about all his adventures. And Mr Hockney, the art teacher, said, 'Graffiti's wrong, Jack. You mustn't do it again. But I was impressed by your painting on the kitchen wall. I think you're a very good artist.' (p.53) Today, I read 'Jack and the Westbourne Fair.'  Jack’s week started badly. He was blamed by his teacher, had trouble with his senior, and was scolded by his parents. He thought that it was so unfair. However, the Westbourne Fair which was his favorite moment of the year was coming to his town. He tried to go to the fair, but his parents prevented him from it. At the end of the story, he learned about important things in life. I remembered the memory that I went to an amusement park when I finished to read this book. I have not had experience like Jack, so this story was fresh for me. It was interesting, so I want to people who want excitem

The Red-headed League

"Well, when they dissolved the League, that the tunnel was ready. They needed to use it soon, before the bank discovered the tunnel or removed the gold. Saturday was better than any other day, because the bank was closed and they had two days for their escape. For all these reasons I expected them to come tonight." (p.56) Today I read the book, "The Red-headed League." The main character of this story is Sherlock Holmes. This story is a bit long for me, but very interesting, so I could finish reading it easily. It is a famous story, so perhaps a lot of people know it. I don't want to write a spoiler in this blog, so I want everyone to read it. Also, I searched the model of Sherlock Holmes. It was Joseph Bell, who was a surgeon and a teacher of the author, Arthur Conan Doyle. Bell had a sharp eye and he could guess right on patient's occupation, address, and family structure. After graduating from the university, Doyle got a hint from the ability of Bell

Zadie's Big Day

Petty the Pirate says, ' A fantastic game, Zadie! Fantastic!' Simon says, 'You're the best footballer, Zadie, and the best skateboarder!' And her father says, 'You're so clever, Zadie! You're brilliant.' (p.53) Today I read 'Zadie's big day.' The main character of it, Zadie, is good at playing football, and she is a key figure of her team. But, she met a boy, Simon, who is skateboarder, and she makes promise to compete on skateboarding. She wants to be the best, so she challenges to the championship of football and the game of skateboarding with Simon. Also, after the discussion of the group, I found the difference between football and soccer. I was glad to know that. I thought that Zadie was very cool girl. Also, she takes pride in her work. In the end of story, her talent was recognized by everyone. I was moved by the scene so much.

Fireball's Heart

"Thank you, Dark Eyes! Thank you for telling the truth!" he says. Dark Eyes looks at Wise Owl. "You know, Chief, I never tell lies. But it's not always easy to tell the truth..." (p.24) Today I read "Fireball's Heart." Chief Wise Owl believes that Dark Eyes, a young man who looks after Wise Owl's favorite horse, Fireball, don't tell lies. But Chief Strong Buffalo doesn't believe that. So, Strong Buffalo suggests that Wise Owl give the horses if Dark Eyes tell a lie during a week. And then, Dark Eyes meets a girl, Blue Feather. She is very ill and she needs Fireball's heart to cure her illness. So, Dark Eyes kills Fireball and gives her it. But he doesn't tell lies to Wise Owl. After reading, I thought that believing my friends and telling the truth were very important. I was moved by Dark Eyes because he keep telling the truth to Wise Owl.

The African Mask

"Hello, I'm Fergus McClennan," he said. "I'm Donald McKinnon's solicitor." "Donald's not here at the moment," said Janet. The solicitor looked at her and then he said, "I know, Donald died two weeks ago. he asked me to come here today and tell you that this house is now yours. Can you sign these papers?" Janet was completely confused. "Was I dreaming yesterday?" she thought.(p19-20) Today, I read "the African Mask." The book was written by Günter Gerngross. The main character, Janet, got a letter from her old boyfriend Donald. She was asked to visit his house by him, so she went there. But he was not there. He was a ghost. I was surprised by this fact. This story was classified as horror. I like horror novels, so it was interesting story for me. I want to read another book written by the same author.
